Details for "Helping Blended Families Cope"

Successful blending of families takes patience and commitment. This workshop discusses that divorced and single parents must take time to heal from their broken relationships. They must also commit to put their children first in order to address their feelings and needs as well as setting limits through positive discipline.

Speaker Esmeralda Alamia, LMSW

A graduate from University of Houston, Esmeralda’s experience includes 20 years directing programs in the areas of public relations, healthcare, mental health mental retardation, migrant head start and HIV-AIDS. Fifteen of these years include working with and advocating for the homelessness. She organized the first homeless coalition in Hidalgo County, Texas and coordinated efforts in search of funding with other homeless service providers in the Rio Grande Valley. Currently she serves as Chair for the Membership Committee of the Texas Homeless Network. Esmeralda has served this Network since 1994 and has also been a member of their Advisory Board. She is also a current member of the Homeless Services Coordinating Council of the Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County. Esmeralda is a certified trainer for the Active Communication for Couples and Positive Parenting programs. She is currently providing mental health counseling to individuals and families in the Bay Area and Midtown offices.
