Please call for an appointment with a case manager, who will provide you with an initial assessment in order to determine whether or not this program can meet your needs.
Services Provided
This program provides transitional shelter to single women and/or women with children who find themselves at risk of homelessness. The program is designed so that each woman lives in an individual bedroom/bath unit. Clients share a combined kitchen, living and play area. Women share laundry facilities and a small office to make phone calls and check voice mail and to practice resume writing and typing skills. Caseworkers provide individual and group counseling, job preparation assistance, crisis intervention, transportation assistance, day care assistance, advocacy services and referrals for immediate needs. Staff also help develop daily life skills.
Eligibility Criteria (Age, etc.)
Women come into this program from emergency shelters, battered women shelters and the streets. They must provide written documentation of their homelessness and must be 18 years of age or older. Up to three children may accompany a parent and must be under the age of 7.
Service Area
Clients may come from anywhere in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. However, most clients come from the Houston/Harris County area.
Fees
Women may stay for up to 12 months. Clients are expected to be enrolled in education/training classes and to obtain employment within their first six weeks of residence. Once they secure employment, they must put 20% of their take-home pay into a savings account to be used for move-out expenses and rental deposits.
Staff
A full-time clinical coordinator manages the program. In addition, one case manager works with the women to connect them with the services necessary to complete a plan of service and achieve stability in housing and income. A house manager is on site in the evenings and on weekends.
