AIDS Ministry

Catholic Charities AIDS ministry provides holistic services to those suffering from HIV/AIDS, while promoting self-sufficiency.   
 
Did you know?
  • One Houstonian is infected with HIV/AIDS every eight hours
  • 5,700 people die from AIDS every day, one child dies every minute.
  • At least 40,000 people are infected each year.
  • AIDS is the leading cause of death for African American women aged 25 to 34.
  • HIV rates among Hispanic women are increasing.
  • The number of women living with HIV has tripled in the last two decades.
  • At least half of all new infections are among people under the age of 25.
History of Program
Diocesan AIDS Ministry was founded in 1988 by Bishop Joseph A. Fiorenza to provide a compassionate response and service to persons with HIV/AIDS, their families and loved ones.  The AIDS Ministry became a program of of Catholic Charities in 1996.  This program strives to provide a compassionate, non-judgmental response and help clients to be as self-sufficient as possible.

  • Spiritual support
  • HIV education
  • One-time financial assistance.
Eligibility Criteria (Age, etc.)
  • Proof of HIV+ status
  • At least 18 years old
  • Proof of income
  • Photo ID

Ten counties that encompasses the entire Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
 
Fees
No fees for any of the AIDS Ministry services.
