Services Provided

Food, rental, utility and medication assistance is available to individuals and families in crisis, as funding is available.

The Rental Assistance Program at Guadalupe Center is primarily focused on families in crisis. Case managers work with individuals during this time to help them locate jobs, job training and stable, permanent housing. A client may be eligible for one-time rental assistance (1 month's rent), short-term rental, utility assistance and case management and counseling services, as funding is available.

Eligibility Criteria

Clients must present photo ID, proof of address and income verification. To qualify for rent/mortgage assistance, clients must have a vacate notice or an eviction notice. To qualify for utility assistance, clients must have a utility disconnect (cut-off) notice.

Service Area

Anyone in the Archdiocese may receive food assistance. Most clients come from the Houston and Harris County area. The Rental Assistance Programs are funded through specific grants and individuals must meet the eligibility criteria for those grants in order to receive those services.

Fees

There are no fees for these services.

Staff

Basic Needs Services is staffed by caseworkers and volunteers who complete the initial assessment, provide emergency/supplemental food assistance, and make referrals to community services. The Rental Assistance Program utilizes both counselors and case managers to work with clients over a 3-month period.

Guadalupe Center receives widespread community support from churches, community groups and businesses. Opportunities to volunteer may include:
  • hosting a food drive or school supply drive
  • sponsoring a family for a holiday project
