Mamie George Community Center To Serve Fort Bend County

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is in the process of constructing a community center to address a range of unmet needs in Fort Bend County. The 26,000 square foot Mamie George Community Center is located near the intersection of Collins Road and Clay Road. Completion is scheduled for late 2010. The center and other Catholic Charities sites will provide much needed services to Fort Bend County's low income residents, particularly seniors. The center will support service delivery to an average of more than 100 people per day, made possible with the commitment of community volunteers. The center will include a Wellness Center, Trini's Corner Market (self-select food pantry) and a Healthy Cafe. The Wellness Center will promote health and well-being through a fitness area, activity rooms and health checks. How to Become a Client - Immigration Charlas

In order to become a client of Cabrini Center, individuals must first attend a charla, an informational session regarding immigration law. After attending the session, each person will have the opportunity to speak individually with an attorney or accredited representative regarding his or her case. If it is a type of case that Cabrini Center may be able to handle, then the individual can make an appointment to come back for a full intake. There is no cost to attend a charla and receive an individual legal consultation. Cabrini Center's charlas are offered the first three Tuesdays of each month at 1:00 PM. The first and third Tuesdays are given in Spanish, and the second Tuesday is given in English. Volunteer services are vital to Cabrini Center's ability to provide high-quality immigration legal services to the Houston community. Last year, Cabrini Center utilized over 4,500 hours of pro bono services. Pro Bono Attorneys Cabrini Center seeks the assistance of pro bono attorneys for both litigation and administrative cases.
